New Delhi: Amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Union Home Ministry has ordered a nationwide mock drill on May 7th. This drill will focus on preparing citizens for air raid warnings, blackouts, and evacuation procedures. The mock drill plans to include siren drills and training on safety measures to ensure citizens can protect themselves in any emergency situation.
PM Modi Reviews Military Preparedness
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh today and reviewed the military's combat readiness. Prior to this, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the chiefs of the Air Force and Navy respectively, also met with the Prime Minister. The meeting discussed the nation's security situation and conducted a detailed assessment of the blackout measures, plant security, and evacuation plans included in the upcoming mock drill.
International Appeals: Efforts Towards Peace
Iran's foreign minister, arriving in Delhi after a visit to Pakistan, has appealed to both countries to de-escalate tensions. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Prime Minister Modi over the phone, assuring India of Russia's support against terrorism. Putin also confirmed his upcoming visit to India for a bilateral summit.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the tension between India and Pakistan is at its highest level and both sides should exercise restraint and make efforts to de-escalate. He also offered assistance to both governments in working towards peace.
Caution in Jammu and Kashmir and Cybersecurity Efforts
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police have prohibited people from crossing the Chenab River in the Akhnoor sector. Due to low water levels in the river, villagers have been seen searching for jewelry and coins. In terms of cybersecurity, several attempts have been made to hack important websites. Attacks targeted the Army Public School and the Ministry of Defence websites in particular. Authorities are planning to enhance security measures.
