New Delhi: Passengers aboard an IndiGo Airlines flight from Delhi to Srinagar experienced a terrifying ordeal when severe turbulence struck the aircraft. The sudden change in weather caused the plane to violently shake, leaving passengers fearing for their lives. Five Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs were on board, including prominent journalist and Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh. Ghosh shared her harrowing experience on social media, describing it as a "near-death" situation.

The five-member TMC delegation, comprising Derek O'Brien, Nadimul Haque, Sagarika Ghosh, Manas Bhunia, and Mamata Thakur, was traveling to Srinagar to visit Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. All MPs were aboard the IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar flight. However, as the aircraft flew over northern India, inclement weather caused the flight to encounter severe turbulence.

Sagarika Ghosh recounts ordeal – 'Death loomed'

MP Sagarika Ghosh described the terrifying experience on her X (formerly Twitter) account, writing: "It felt like my life was ending. People were screaming, remembering God, praying. I have never experienced such fear before."

She further mentioned that the front of the aircraft was damaged upon landing. Although all 200 passengers landed safely, the trauma of the experience will likely remain with them.

Thanks to pilot; 'You saved us'

Ghosh praised the pilot's professionalism, commending their handling of the situation and safe landing after contacting Srinagar Air Traffic Control. She wrote: "Salute to the pilot. He saved us from the jaws of death."

The TMC delegation personally thanked the pilot and flight crew after landing.

Video of the aircraft goes viral on social media

A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing the plane violently shaking and passengers visibly distressed. Some were praying, while others, including children and elderly passengers, appeared visibly frightened. The video vividly illustrates the severity of the situation.

TMC delegation's J&K visit to continue until May 23

The TMC delegation's visit will continue until May 23. They will meet families in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir who have lost loved ones in cross-border attacks. The party stated that the delegation aims to express solidarity and understand the challenges faced by the people.
