New Delhi/Jammu and Kashmir – Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a major operation against terrorists. Following the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack on April 22nd, the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and SOG (Special Operations Group) have intensified search operations across the state. Five terrorists involved in the attack have been identified, including three Pakistanis and two Kashmiris.
Major Action in Bandipora
Security agencies have achieved significant success. Security forces arrested four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Bandipora district, North Kashmir. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered. These OGWs are believed to have provided logistical support to the terrorists.
Army on High Alert Following Pahalgam Attack
Security forces have been on high alert since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, on April 22nd. The five terrorists involved in the attack have been identified. The government has announced a reward of ₹20 lakh for information leading to their arrest.
Search Operation Ongoing in Poonch Forests
On Thursday, the Army, along with the SOG and police, launched a joint search operation in the Lasana forest area of Poonch district. Sources indicate that the terrorists are hiding in the mountainous and forested area. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are searching every possible location.
Encounter in Kokernag, Terrorists Surrounded
On Wednesday, an encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in Tangmarg village, Kokernag area, Anantnag district. Security forces, acting on intelligence, surrounded the area. The terrorists opened fire while attempting to escape, prompting retaliatory fire from the security personnel. The encounter lasted approximately 20 minutes. No confirmation of any terrorist casualties was available late into the night.
Preparing to Dismantle Terrorist Network at the Grassroots Level
The objective of this operation is not only to apprehend the terrorists but also to dismantle their network, overground workers, and support system. The arrest of these OGWs is likely to provide security forces with information about several plans of terrorist organizations.
