Subsequent films, ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ (2017), ‘Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ (2019), and 'Chapter 4' (2023), transformed the franchise into a global blockbuster.
This Time, the Story Focuses on John's Pain, Not Revenge
This time, the narrative will deviate from the established formula. The 'John Wick' series has been known for its brutal conflicts, the underworld's High Table, and a man's personal revenge mission. However, Chad Stahelski has clarified that 'John Wick 5' will break away from that pattern. Stahelski also stated that to create 'John Wick 5', a new, fresh story was needed – one distinctly different from its predecessors yet one that would explore John Wick's character with even greater depth.
A Trailer Shock That Fans Won't Forget
The director mentioned in an interview that the trailer for 'John Wick 5' will leave audiences intensely excited. “People will say – Oh my God! I have to see this,” Chad Stahelski claimed, adding that the new film will feature such deep twists and emotional layers that viewers will be completely immersed in the story.
The makers aim to expand beyond 'John Wick 5'. They plan to transform the character into a multi-media universe, with a web series and an animated film currently in development. This will be the first time John Wick's world will be explored across various platforms. Stahelski said, "We want to expand this universe so people can see the character in new stories and different forms."
Expanding the Universe Through 'Ballerina' and 'The Caine'
Spin-off films are also contributing to the growth of the 'John Wick Universe.' 'Ballerina', starring Ana de Armas, will be released on June 6th. This film tells the story of a dancer who becomes an assassin to avenge her family's murder. Keanu Reeves will have a cameo appearance. A separate film is also in the works focusing on the character Caine, played by Donnie Yen in 'John Wick 4'.
