Fulfilling her childhood dream proved tragically expensive and heartbreaking for Roshni Songhre. A resident of Dombivali, Maharashtra, Roshni dreamt of becoming an air hostess and touching the skies.
Ahmedabad Plane Crash: The Ahmedabad plane crash shook the entire nation. This devastating event claimed 266 lives, including Roshni Songhre, a promising and energetic Air India air hostess. The 26-year-old Roshni was not only the hope of her family but also an inspiration to thousands of girls from small towns who aspire to chase big dreams.
Today, when her mortal remains return home, it is not just a daughter, sister, or colleague who returns, but "the daughter of the sky" who, even reaching the heights of her dreams, remained grounded.
Where Dreams Began: A Small Lane in Dombivali
Roshni Songhre hailed from a middle-class family in Dombivali, Thane district, Maharashtra. Her family lived in a 10x10 room, but her dreams were far bigger. Since childhood, she yearned to fly. While other children played with dolls, Roshni imagined herself in an air hostess uniform.
Her father, Rajendra Songhre, is a technician, and her mother, Shobha Songhre, is a homemaker. Despite financial constraints, they never let their daughter's dreams diminish. Along with her studies, Roshni diligently pursued air hostess training.
Career Beginning with SpiceJet, Reaching Air India
Her dreams took flight when Roshni secured a job as cabin crew with SpiceJet. She worked with SpiceJet for about two years before being selected by Air India. This marked a turning point in her career, where she began to build a better future for herself and her family.
Roshni was also very active on social media. Her Instagram account, 'Sky Loves Her,' had over 54,000 followers. She shared travel vlogs, flight views, and her experiences. Every post reflected the sparkle in her eyes and the smile on her face—a smile only a girl living her dreams could possess.
A Final Village Visit and Then 'Farewell'
Just two days before the accident, Roshni visited her village. She met her grandparents and uncles and aunts and visited the family deity. Perhaps she didn't know it would be her final farewell. After returning home, she boarded a flight from Ahmedabad to London—a flight from which she never returned.
This accident has broken the Songhre family. Her mother, Shobha Songhre, has not yet been informed of her daughter's death due to her blood pressure problems. Her younger brother, Vignesh, who serves in the Navy, is deployed at sea and is unaware of his sister's passing. Only her father and older brother have gone to Ahmedabad to bring back her body.
Air India's Silence, Colleagues' Sympathy
The family says they have not yet received any official call or assistance from Air India. However, some of Roshni's colleagues and their families are present in Ahmedabad and are providing all possible help. Roshni Songhre's story is not just about a girl who fell victim to an accident. It's the story of a dream, fulfilled despite all odds.
