Bihar Election Commission to Conduct Door-to-Door Voter Verification

Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections, Election Commission to Conduct Door-to-Door Voter Verification

Bihar Election 2025: With Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for later this year, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to take a significant step to make the voter list more transparent and error-free. The commission is working on a plan to conduct door-to-door verification of voters across the state.

Preparation to Repeat 2004 Process

According to sources, this process will be as comprehensive and thorough as the one undertaken in 2004. That year, large-scale physical verification of the voter list was carried out before the elections. This model will be adopted again to remove incorrect or duplicate names and include eligible citizens who have been omitted.

Questions Raised Regarding Voter List

In recent years, several political parties and social organizations have questioned the credibility of the voter list. The Congress, along with other opposition parties, has accused the Election Commission of manipulating voter data to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, the commission has dismissed these allegations, stating that the entire process of list creation is transparent, conducted under the supervision of political parties, and adheres to established regulations.

Objective: Removing Duplicate and Fake Names

The goal this time is to remove any fake names or duplicate entries. Additionally, new voters who have not been included in the list for any reason will be added. The commission aims to ensure that every eligible citizen has the right to vote and that no eligible voter is unnecessarily excluded from the list.

Voter Awareness Campaign

Along with voter verification, the Election Commission will also conduct an awareness campaign among voters. This campaign will inform voters how to check their names online, make corrections, and apply for new entries.

Simultaneous Digital Data Entry and Fieldwork

This time, the commission will combine digital technology and fieldwork to make the process more efficient. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will collect voter information door-to-door and simultaneously make real-time entries through mobile apps or tablets. This will reduce the likelihood of data errors and expedite the process.

Information to be Shared with Political Parties

The Election Commission has clarified that information regarding every step of the voter list process will be shared with all major political parties. They can monitor the verification process through their representatives, further strengthening transparency.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

The commission appeals to the public to cooperate fully when BLOs visit their homes, providing accurate information and necessary documents. This will help in making the voter list accurate.
