Pakistan Violates Ceasefire for Ninth Night, Intensifying India-Pakistan Tensions

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire on LoC for Ninth Night; Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor Targeted. Indian Army Retaliates. Tensions Soar After Pulwama Attack.

Pakistan Firing on LoC: Pakistan has once again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the ninth consecutive night of unprovoked firing by Pakistan on Indian borders. Firing from the Pakistani army targeted sensitive areas like Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnour, prompting a precise and b response from the Indian Army.

Heightened Tensions: Pulwama Attack Exacerbates Situation

These incidents occur in the wake of the April 22nd terrorist attack in Pulwama, which resulted in the martyrdom of 26 Indian soldiers. Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a critical point since the attack. India has warned Pakistan that continued infiltration and firing will not be tolerated.

Firing Continues Since April 24th

Pakistan initiated firing across various sections of the LoC on the night of April 24th, and the attacks continue. Meanwhile, a hotline conversation took place between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, expressing concern over these events. India made it clear to Pakistan that such actions could lead directly to war.

Indus Waters Treaty Suspended; Pakistan Takes Strong Measures

India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft, sealed the Wagah border, and severed all trade relations with India. Pakistan stated that any obstruction of its share of water by India would be considered a direct “act of war.”

Indo-Pak Border: A Three-Part Structure

The India-Pakistan border, totaling 3,323 kilometers, is divided into three sections:

  • International Border (IB): Approximately 2,400 km from Gujarat to Jammu.
  • Line of Control (LoC): Approximately 740 km from Jammu to Leh.
  • Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL): 110 km from Siachen to Indira Col.

While both countries resolved to reinstate the 2003 ceasefire agreement in February 2021, recent events indicate that peace remains precarious.
