Delhi-NCR shrouded in haze this morning, with rising temperatures. The meteorological department forecasts temperatures to reach 41 degrees Celsius, a condition expected to persist.
AQI Report Delhi: A thick layer of haze blanketed the Delhi-NCR sky from Thursday morning. Visibility was reduced, and a slight feeling of stuffiness was experienced. The effect of humidity in the air was clearly noticeable in the morning.
Meanwhile, temperatures are gradually rising. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Delhi today could reach 41 degrees Celsius. Similar hot and dry conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.
Temperature crosses 40 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day
On Wednesday, Delhi's maximum temperature was recorded at 40.4 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was also 2.1 degrees above normal, recorded at 23.3 degrees Celsius.
Conditions were even hotter in some parts of Delhi. Aya Nagar recorded a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees, while Pitampura saw a minimum temperature of 25.7 degrees.
Humidity levels dropped from 73% in the morning to 22% during the day, resulting in a feeling of both mugginess and hot, loo-like winds.
Slight improvement in Air Quality (AQI)
Despite the rising heat, a gradual improvement in Air Quality has been observed over the past nine days. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's average AQI on Wednesday was 135, falling under the 'moderate' category.
On Tuesday, it was 141, indicating a 6-point drop in AQI within 24 hours. Similar conditions prevailed in other NCR cities. The AQI is expected to remain in the moderate range in the coming days.
Strong winds expected this evening
The meteorological department forecasts b winds of 15-25 kilometers per hour this evening. Wind speeds may reach up to 35 km per hour for short periods. This could offer some relief from pollution dispersal.
Partly cloudy skies are expected, but there is no prediction of rain. The maximum temperature may remain around 41 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius.
Alert for Delhi residents
Both heat and air pollution remain challenges for Delhi-NCR residents. Health experts advise using umbrellas, hats, and sunscreen when venturing outdoors. Prolonged sun exposure increases the risk of dehydration and heat stroke.
