Iran Appoints New IRGC Intelligence Head Amidst Rising Tensions with Israel

Following the death of IRGC General Kazemi in an Israeli attack, Iran has appointed Majid Khademi as the new head of IRGC intelligence. Concerns over escalating tensions have risen.

Middle East Iran: Amidst recently heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, Iran has reshuffled the leadership of its Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) intelligence division. This recent move by Iran saw Brigadier General Majid Khademi appointed as the new head of IRGC intelligence. This announcement was officially made by IRGC Major General Mohammad Pakpour.

Reasons for the Change

This appointment followed the deaths of several top officials, including another senior IRGC general, Mohammad Kazemi, and two other high-ranking commanders, Hassan Mohakak and Mohsin Bageri, in an Israeli airstrike. These deaths created a significant void in the IRGC's intelligence command structure.

Previous Leadership of IRGC Intelligence

Amidst heightened tensions in IRGC missile and intelligence units in May and June, Kazemi and Mohakak led this unit. General Pakpour stated, "When the martyred commanders Kazemi and Mohakak led the IRGC's intelligence unit, progress was seen at every level." This suggests these leaders made significant contributions to strengthening the intelligence network.

Who is Majid Khademi?

Brigadier General Majid Khademi has served in the IRGC for many years. He possesses extensive experience in military strategy and intelligence operations. He is associated with regional and strategic operations of the IRGC intelligence unit. Khademi is now assuming this responsibility assigned by Pakpour.

The Reason for the Escalation with Israel

Last week, Israel announced targeting nuclear sites related to Iran's nuclear program. Israeli officials claimed that Iran is close to developing nuclear weapons. However, Iran has repeatedly denied this accusation. Israeli attacks escalated, resulting in the deaths of several senior IRGC officials.

In response, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli hospitals and other civilian facilities. General Pakpour warned that "if Israel does not cease its attacks, Iran will open the gates of hell."
