Newlywed Couple Missing After Sikkim Honeymoon Trip

Newlywed Couple Missing in Sikkim Since May 29th

Honeymoon Couple: A newlywed couple from Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, has been missing for 13 days while on their honeymoon in Sikkim. On May 29th, during heavy rainfall, the vehicle they were traveling in reportedly plunged into a ravine. Search operations, conducted by the administration, have been ongoing since then, but no concrete information or evidence has yet emerged.

Honeymoon Shortly After the Wedding

Kaushalendra Pratap Singh (29), a resident of Pratapgarh and nephew of BJP leader Ummed Singh, married Ankita Singh (26) from Dhanagar Sarai Chiwlaha village on May 5th. According to the family, they left for Sikkim by train on May 25th, just 20 days after their wedding. They reached Mangan district on May 26th and the incident occurred on May 29th while returning from Lachen to Lachung.

Nine People Missing in the Accident

According to reports, there were nine people in the vehicle at the time of the accident. This included two from Uttar Pradesh, two from Tripura, four tourists from Odisha, and a local driver. All have been missing since the incident, and the administration has yet to find any bodies or survivors.

Local authorities have stated that the vehicle may have fallen into the Teesta River during heavy rainfall, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Search Operation by SDRF and NDRF Teams

Immediately after the incident, SDRF and NDRF teams arrived at the scene and launched a search operation. However, the depth of the ravine and challenging weather conditions are hindering the search efforts. The river water level is high, and the geographical terrain is difficult.

Family in Distress

Kaushalendra's uncle, Dinesh Singh, stated that it is still unclear whether the vehicle actually fell into the river or somewhere else. He mentioned that the couple's belongings have been recovered from their hotel, but this hasn't provided conclusive evidence of their whereabouts or the cause of their disappearance.

Kaushalendra's father, Sher Bahadur Singh, Ankita's brother and uncle, along with seven family members, had already reached Sikkim. They met with senior officials, including DIG Akshay Sachdeva and the local SP, to request expedited search efforts. The family members have since returned home but remain hopeful of a miracle.
