India's precise and planned strikes on Pakistani terrorist bases under Operation Sindur have sent shockwaves across the international community. While some nations support India's right to self-defense, China and Turkey have issued statements opposing the action and expressing solidarity with Pakistan.
New Delhi: Following India's military operation against terrorist bases in Pakistan under Operation Sindur, China has expressed its displeasure. China stated its regret over the military operation and voiced concern regarding the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. While clarifying its opposition to all forms of terrorism, China also conveyed its dissatisfaction with India's military action. China urged both countries to exercise restraint and resolve the issue through dialogue.
China's 'Peace' Appeal or Strategic Concern?
China's initial response to Operation Sindur has emerged from Beijing in an official statement. It emphasizes that India and Pakistan are neighboring countries and should resolve issues through mutual dialogue. Describing the action as unfortunate, China expressed concern for regional stability. Although condemning all forms of violence against terrorism, China characterized India's cross-border operation as a "violation of sovereignty." Analysts believe China's reaction stems from its close ties with Pakistan and significant investments in CPEC projects.
India's Response: Zero Tolerance Policy Against Terrorism
Similar to China, Turkey also objected to India's military action. Pakistan's foreign ministry claimed that the Turkish foreign minister condemned India's actions in a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart, describing it as violence against civilians. Turkey's support is not surprising, given its past stance in favor of Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
The Indian Army targeted nine major terrorist bases in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province. The surgical strikes targeted training camps in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sialkot, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. According to government sources, these camps were operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and other terrorist organizations, and were allegedly involved in plotting recent terrorist attacks in India.
Israel Expresses Support for India
Israel has offered full support to India. Israel's ambassador to India, Ron Malka, stated that India's right to self-defense in the fight against terrorism is completely legitimate. He added that terrorists should understand there will be no safe haven after attacks against innocent people.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is monitoring the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. He expressed hope that both countries would choose the path of peace and dialogue. While the US did not openly support either side, it emphasized a "peaceful resolution."
