North India Faces Extreme Weather: Heatwave Scorches UP, Bihar, Rajasthan While Delhi Sees Unseasonal Rain

Unseasonable weather patterns have surprised many across North India. While Delhi-NCR experienced a sudden change with rain and b winds offering some respite from the heat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan continue to grapple with intense heatwaves.

Weather Update: North India is currently experiencing intense sunshine and scorching heat, causing significant hardship. Daily life is being severely impacted by the extreme heat in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. However, a sudden dust storm and rainfall in the national capital, Delhi, on Wednesday evening provided some relief, lowering temperatures.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of further rain in Delhi and some other areas on Friday, which could provide further relief from the heat. However, the heatwave will likely continue in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, with little expectation of significant temperature drops.

Rainfall in Delhi-NCR

The weather in Delhi-NCR this week has been highly unpredictable. People, initially burdened by intense sunshine and humidity, found relief in the sudden rainfall and dust storms. The Wednesday evening downpour and storm resulted in a temperature drop of approximately 6 degrees Celsius. Thursday recorded a minimum temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius, about 6 degrees below the seasonal average.

The Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and lightning for the next two days, along with b winds. Approximately 12 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the Delhi-NCR region over the past 24 hours. However, this rainfall resulted in two deaths and eleven injuries in the capital, prompting the administration to issue an alert and strengthen safety measures.

Heatwave and Humidity Continue in UP and Bihar

Temperatures in most parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar remain between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a particularly severe heatwave, while western parts are receiving some relief from light rain and b winds. The maximum temperature in Lucknow is expected to be around 40 degrees Celsius, and the minimum around 29 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in several districts of the state, but the humidity and heat are providing little relief to the population.

Bihar is experiencing similar weather conditions. Intense sunshine and humidity are making daytime extremely difficult. Farmers and laborers in rural areas are particularly affected by this extreme heat.

Rajasthan Scorched by Heat

A severe heatwave in Rajasthan has disrupted daily life. Ganganagar recorded a temperature of 47.6 degrees Celsius, the highest of the season. Other high temperatures recorded include Pilani (47.2°C), Churu (46.8°C), Bikaner (46.3°C), Kota (45.8°C), Jaisalmer (45.4°C), and Jaipur (44.8°C).

The Meteorological Department has warned of further temperature increases in the next one to two days. There is a possibility of thunderstorms and light rain or dust storms in parts of Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Bharatpur divisions. A dust storm alert has been issued specifically for the Bikaner division on May 23rd.

This extreme heat in Rajasthan has significantly increased difficulties for agricultural workers, road workers, and rural populations. The demand for water is also increasing rapidly.

Heavy Rainfall Alert for Goa

Meanwhile, the monsoon has arrived on Goa's west coast. Heavy rainfall has been reported for two consecutive days, and the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall until May 26th. Authorities have banned tourists from visiting the famous Dudhsagar waterfall and advised staying away from risky areas.

According to the IMD, the rainfall will continue in many parts of Goa until May 26th, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some areas. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
