Experts attribute the rise in COVID-19 cases in Asian countries, including India, to the new JN.1 variant, a mutation of Omicron BA.2.86. This variant is spreading rapidly in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong. While symptoms are similar to other variants, JN.1 is considered more contagious.
Clarification on Deaths of COVID-Positive Patients in Mumbai
Recent deaths of two COVID-positive patients at Mumbai's KEM Hospital sparked concern. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) clarified that COVID-19 was not the cause of death; both patients suffered from pre-existing serious illnesses – one from oral cancer and the other from nephrotic syndrome. This highlights that COVID-19 can pose a risk to individuals with weakened immune systems, but healthy individuals need not panic.
