Monsoon finally arrived in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat and scorching temperatures. This sudden change in weather resulted in a significant drop in temperature, with people experiencing cooler breezes and light showers.
Lucknow: The monsoon has finally reached Uttar Pradesh, offering respite from the oppressive heatwave. According to the meteorological department, the monsoon entered the state via Sonbhadra district. Following its arrival, rainfall commenced in the eastern and southern districts. Many parts of the state experienced light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday night, leading to a considerable decrease in the maximum temperature.
Monsoon's Arrival Changes Weather Pattern
Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Lucknow Regional Meteorological Centre, reported that the southwest monsoon entered the state through Sonbhadra. The impact of the first monsoon rains was observed in Sonbhadra, Ghazipur, Ballia, and Varanasi, where light showers began on Wednesday evening. Experts predict the monsoon will cover the entire state within the next 48 hours, bringing relief to the western UP districts as well.
Heavy Rainfall Warning for 16 Districts, Thunderstorm Alert for 35
The meteorological department issued a warning on Thursday predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in 16 districts of eastern UP and the Terai region. An orange alert was also issued for 35 districts, anticipating thunderstorms with lightning. The warning indicated b winds of 40-50 km per hour in these areas, potentially disrupting daily life.

Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, and Bahraich.
Districts Under Thunderstorm Alert
Prayagraj, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Azamgarh, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Gonda, Shravasti, Sitapur, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar, and other districts.
Temperature Drop, Relief from Heatwave
Due to the rainfall, temperatures in most parts of the state fell below normal. Etawah recorded the most significant drop, at 6.7°C. Cities like Churh, Hardoi, Varanasi, Basti, Agra, and Aligarh experienced a 3-4.5°C decrease in maximum temperature. No location recorded temperatures above 40°C, providing significant relief.

Besides Uttar Pradesh, significant monsoon activity was observed in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra-Kutch and Konkan-Goa in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, West Bengal, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours. These states also experienced moderate to heavy rainfall.
